Francis “Frank” Myers, 83, of Rock Hill, South Carolina passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026. Born in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey on March 22, 1943, he grew up in Liberty, New York as the oldest of eight boys.
In his youth, Frank attended Catholic elementary school and Liberty High School. He spent many summers working on his Grandpa Sullivan’s farm in Hammond, New York where he learned to drive on farm equipment. He also worked at his father’s ARCO filling station throughout high school and college, beginning at the age of thirteen. He attended Broome Technical College and Clarkson University where he completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Frank arrived in the Akron, Ohio area in 1965 to begin a decades-long career with General Tire and Rubber Company as a tire design engineer. While in the Akron area, he met and married his first wife, Patricia with whom he raised a family in Mogadore, Ohio. During this time, he was active with Akron Jaycees, leading to a life of dedicated volunteer work with the International Soap Box Derby, the Bridgestone Golf Invitational (beginning with its origin as the Rubber City Open), and the restoration of the Akron Civic Theater. He was also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Following the acquisition of General Tire by Continental AG, Frank relocated to Rock Hill, SC with his current wife, Phyllis, whom he wed in 1999. Upon retirement in 2003, he became active as a volunteer in various organizations. He spent years helping area residents as a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). With Phyllis, they worked together with the Spencer Estates Neighborhood Association, the Rock Hill Council of Neighborhoods, the Hospice and Community Care Center, The Optimist Club, and making Christmas meal deliveries for Meals on Wheels.
For many years, Frank and Phyllis traveled back to Ohio on a regular basis to continue his volunteer work at the Bridgestone Golf Tournament, where he volunteered for 55 years, and to stay close with their extended family.
Frank leaves behind many friends and colleagues he made over the years and a loving family who will remember him fondly for his ability to fix almost anything, love of railroad trains, dry sense of humor, and the honor and dignity with which he carried himself. He will also be remembered as the family documentarian, taking pictures at every family event and creating calendars, cards, and slide shows for all to enjoy.
Frank was pre-deceased by his parents, Norman and Cecelia Myers; his brothers, John and Ed Myers; his first wife, Patricia Myers; his son, Robert Myers; stepdaughter, Denise Wiebrecht; and step-grandchildren, Kimberly Wilson and Baby Noah Coffman.
Frank leaves behind to celebrate his memory his wife, Phyllis; children, Christine (Leon) Howard, Cathy (Brian) Hatfield, and Monica Greenberg (Mike Smith) as well as Becky (Jerry) Wilson, Linda Waterman, Mark Wiebrecht, Teresa (Steve) Whitmer, and Merrie (Rick) Stein; his brothers Jerry (Rita) Myers, Tom (Pat) Myers, Henry, Will (Donna) Myers, and Mike (Nora) Myers in addition to his sisters-in-law Robin and Gloria Myers. He will be greatly missed by dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family is currently making plans for a memorial service with details forthcoming.
