Gene Franklin Childers, born on August 13, 1945, to Claude and Flonnie Mae Childers, passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2026, in the comfort of his home.
The family shares, “Daddy never was the cadillac kind.” He measured his life by his relationships with his loving family—his son who often sang his favorite songs, his grandchildren who rode on his shoulders, his brother across the pond who would help in a heartbeat, and his children who shared many laughs with him on the porch. He cared for and loved his wife tremendously until his very last breath.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; his children, Mark Childers, Stephanie Angel, and Sheena Hinson (Lee); and his grandchildren, Brianna and Joshua Hinson, Camron May, and seven others.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive visitors prior of service from 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be made to Temple Baptist Church, 281 Celriver Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
