Rock Hill, SC – George Albert Parow Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born in Manhattan, New York to the late George William Parow and the late Josephine Veronica (Dwyer) Parow. He was a long-time resident of Fishkill, New York.
After graduating from Evander Child High School in the Bronx, New York he continued his education at Bronx Community College where he soon after began his career in Engineering. He was employed for many years at the Texaco Research Center in Glenham, NY and later became a draftsman for the City of New York. He worked for the Dept of Public Works where he assisted in the design of the second Yankee Stadium. In 1977 he went to work for WNYC television/radio as Deputy Chief of Operations. He helped manage the station through the great blackout of 1977. He proudly retired from WNYC in 1992.
It was at Texaco Research Center that George met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Kormondy, they hit it off and danced regularly at the Casino on top of Mount Beacon. George married Mary Ellen on March 22nd, 1959, at the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon, New York and were happily married for 60 years.
After retirement, George and Mary moved to Viera Beach, Florida where they enjoyed the sunshine, the beaches and being close to family. In 2005 they moved to South Carolina where George fulfilled his dream of owning a boat on Lake Wylie. George was a member of the Jaycees and the Fishkill Democratic Club. He devoted free time in researching his family lineage and was proud of all that he was able to learn and share with his family. George was an animal lover and over the years owned several German Shepherds, one Maltese and a lovable orange cat named Zachary that adopted him.
George was the Patriarch of his family, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen; sister-in-law, Kathryn (Kormondy) Shea; Brother-in-law, Robert C. Kormondy, Sr., Col. USAF (Ret); and daughter-in- law, Joan (Duchowny) Parow.
Survivors are his four children: sons, George Albert Parow, Jr. and Kenneth Charles Parow (Sally); his daughters, Sandra Skerritt and Jennifer Anselmo (Diego). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Alexandra (Grant), Tyler, Daniel (Brittany), Nicholas, Kenny (Rachel), Alec, Brandon (Jessica), and Andrew (Isabelle); his five great-granddaughters, Ava Grace, Isabella Rose, Nora Lee, Sophia Lily, and Wren Elizabeth.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 12:30pm at All Saints Catholic Church, 530 SC-274, Clover, SC 29710, with Rev. Charles Tupta officiating. The family will receive visitors prior from 11:30am – 12:15pm in the Adoration Room. A private burial will be at a later date at Fishkill Rural Cemetery in Fishkill, New York.
