Rock Hill, SC – Mr. Harvie Leonard Helms, 88, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Brookdale South Park Assisted Living, Charlotte, NC.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Mount Holly United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC with Reverend J. Wayne Smith Jr officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
Born in York County, SC, Mr. Helms was the son of the late Ozzie Lee Helms and the late Bertha Smith Helms. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bettie Ruth Helms Herron. He was retired from Winthrop University with 26 years of service. Harvie served in the Navy as 3rd class Petty Officer aboard the USS Antietam from 1955-1959. He was a member of Mount Holly UMC.
Mr. Helms is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean Turney Helms; his son, Leonard (Charlotte) Helms of Clover, SC; five grandchildren. He also leaves behind Oliver, his beloved Jack Russell.
