Our beloved, James (Jim) Martin Davis, 81, lost his battle with cancer and went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He was the son of the late Neal and Lucile Davis of Rowland, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Andrea Talley Davis and his brother, William Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Matthews Davis; his daughters, Lynn Marsh of Fort Mill, SC and Leigh Cunningham (Paul) of Birmingham, AL; and his twin brother, Tim Davis of Leland, NC. Also, he is survived by his stepsons, Michael Matthews (Holly) of Rock Hill and Mark Matthews (Carol) of Blackstock, SC.
Jim and Andrea were blessed with four granddaughters, Jessica and Savannah Marsh; Chloe and Sophie Cunningham. Jim also embraced his step grandchildren, Sarah Kathryn, Ben, Caroline, Jack, Kirsten and Kayla Matthews.
Jim was born on April 28, 1943 and raised in Rowland, NC. He attended North Carolina State University and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduating, Jim accepted a position at the Celanese Celriver Plant and continued working there until he retired.
One of his accomplishments while working for Celanese was helping to design and to supervise the building of a plant in China. Jim later served on the committee that designed and built the Celanese Celriver Plaza at Riverwalk.
Outside of work, Jim loved playing golf, traveling, woodworking, and serving in his church, First Baptist Church of Rock Hill. Over the years he was involved in the FBC building projects, Sunday School ministries, and missions ministries. Some of his favorite ministries were World Changers and Filter of Hope. Finally, he served as a deacon at FBC for over 25 years and recently received the Honorary Life Deacon Award.
In the past few years, Jim enjoyed designing and building theater sets with the students at Nation Ford High School. The students lovingly called him Papa Jim. He had a heart for young people and many call him their mentor.
Jim was a wonderful example of what a Christian man should be; confident in his relationship with Christ, kind to everyone and always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, with visitation starting at 10:00A.M. and memorial service following at 11:00 A.M. At FBC, 481 Hood Center Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29730
