James Julius “Jim” Hill, born on August 4, 1945, passed away on 18 July 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend whose life was marked by service, generosity, and a passion for helping others. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Following his military service, he dedicated 25 years of his career to Duke Power, where he earned the respect and friendship of those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his career, Jim believed in giving back to his community. He was actively involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping bring joy and hope to children and their families. He also shared a lifelong passion for classic automobiles through his involvement with the South Carolina Representatives of the National Street Rod Association. His enthusiasm for the hobby allowed him to build lasting friendships and create countless memories.
Jim was also a proud Shriner and a 32nd Degree Mason, organizations through which he continued his lifelong commitment to fellowship, charity, and service.
Above all else, Jim cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Wood Hill; his children, Todd Hill (Amy) and Robin Lowery (Greg); his grandchildren, Michael Hill (Caitlynn), Brittany Miller (Dakota), Matthew Hill (Jayme), Jonathan Lowery (Sarah), Sarah Machin (AJ), and Courtney Lowery (Chase); and his great-grandchildren: Kayden Oswald, Carson Hill, Brandon Johnson, and Noah Hill; Braxton Arrants and Adalynn Hill; Brinklee Machin, Paislee Machin, Arabella Machin, Kashel Machin, Emorlynn Machin, and Sawyer Machin.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country and community, and the kindness and generosity that touched so many lives. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friends he made, and the countless people whose lives were made better because of his compassion and willingness to serve.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 5 pm to 7pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732.
