Rock Hill, SC – James Leroy Dozier, 87, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at his home.
The service will be held at Rock Hill Christian Church, 380 Museum Road, Rock Hill, SC on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 pm.
Born in Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Dozier was the son of the late Roy Marian Dozier and the late Mary McGraw Dozier. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Barbara C. Dozier, and his sister, Frances Marian Dozier Townsend.
Mr. Dozier proudly served in the United States Army for 3 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art Education and later did his graduate work at the University of South Carolina and Winthrop University. He worked as an Art teacher and as an Ordained Minister in the Nazarene church. Mr. Dozier was known by many as “Pastor Jim”, serving as a pastor at First Church of Nazarene in Lancaster, SC and most recently at Rock Hill Christian Church in Rock Hill. He was also a gifted artist. In his free time, Mr. Dozier enjoyed art, music, and reading.
Surviving are his two sons, James “Jimmy” L. Dozier, II (Judith) of Rock Hill, SC, and Paul Dozier of Hickory, NC; his daughter, Beverly Dozier (Arnold Gutierrez) of Kershaw, SC; 16 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren.
