Mrs. Janice Strickland Tucker at age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 20th.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 27th at 12:00 pm at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church in Rock Hill.  A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm.

Born in Tabor City, NC, and a longtime resident of York, SC, Mrs. Tucker was the daughter of the late Dustin S. Strickland and Edna Turbeville Strickland.  She is also preceded in death by her brother Jackie Strickland.

She is survived by her husband John Randolph Tucker; children Samuel Tucker (Rebecca), Tamela Tucker Colón (Luis), Sherry Tucker Hunkler (Philip), and Mickey Tucker; grandchildren Jessica Stamey Scarlett (Barry), Brian Tucker (Rose), Patrick Tucker (Jennifer), Amber Tucker Cook (Dustin), Kyle Hunkler (Bryanna), Chad Hunkler (Caitlin), Julia Alexis Hunkler; and three great grandchildren.

Along with husband John, she founded Tucker Ornamental Iron and Steel in 1976.  They were passionate and hardworking entrepreneurs and worked side-by-side until retirement.  It was a great pride of hers to enhance the beauty of York County and surrounding areas through their ornamental iron work.  They were charter members of Rawlinson Road Baptist Church and raised their family there.  She was an avid gardener, animal lover and a jovial conversationalist, including writing two published books of poetry (and penned several more).  She had a deep love for the beach and mountains where many family vacations were held.  Her greatest joys in life were her husband John, being surrounded by her family and strolling through her lovingly tended flower gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 2101 Rexford Rd #165W, Charlotte, NC 28211 or The Building Fund at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church, 1024 Rawlinson Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
