Jean Busby Sturgis, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 3, 1933, in Elberton, GA, Jean was the daughter of the late James Bertram Busby and the late Julia Mae Goss Busby.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her gracious love for her family. She loved spending her time at Litchfield Beach, enjoyed cooking, and took great pride in her beautiful flower garden. She was a true Clemson enthusiast. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her, and she especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her children, Robert K. Sturgis, Jr. (Laura), James M. Sturgis (Shelley), Joel B. Sturgis, Julie Sturgis O’Dell (Tim), Stephen M. Sturgis, and Timothy B. Sturgis (Mary K.); her beloved grandchildren, Anna Sturgis Daniel (Jamie), Joel M. Sturgis, Taylor J. O’Dell (Miranda), Michael T. O’Dell, Robert B. O’Dell, Katherine L. O’Dell (David), Brooke V. Sturgis, Rachel A. Lee, Robert B. Lee, Brian P. Sturgis, Ashley M. VanBoven, and Amanda Lee VanBoven; as well as her great-grandchildren, Coleman J. Daniel, Claire M. Daniel, Nena K. Moore, Delaney D. Harmon, Reagan S. O’Dell, and Major A. McCall.
Aside from her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert K. Sturgis “Bobby;” her brother, Robert Busby, her daughter in law, Amy Sturgis and her grandson, Andrew James Sturgis.
A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on November 2, 2025, at 3:00PM at Tirzah ARP Church, 6161 Mt Gallant Rd, York, SC 29745. Jean will be remembered for the love and joy she brought to her family and friends.
