Joan Grantham Thomasson, 70, passed away at Piedmont Medical Center on February 8, 2025 after a sudden and tragic accident.

Joan was born on July 9, 1954. She married her husband, Tom, and settled in Fort Mill, SC. Shortly after, their daughter Maggie came into the family. Joan and her family joined the congregation of Unity Presbyterian Church, where she joyously served The Lord ever since. She attended and led bible studies and circles, served on committees, sang in the choir, and somehow still found even more ways to be involved with the church and share Christ’s love. As an elementary school teacher and Reading Recovery specialist, she taught hundreds if not thousands of children and worked hard to instill in all of them an understanding and love of reading.

She was a lover of music, theater, and fashion – beautiful inside and out. She was a mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a mentor… and most of all, a shining light that will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Tom Thomasson; her daughter, Maggie Thomasson; her sister, Jan Martin (James Martin); and her brother, Jay Grantham (Mary Grantham); as well as a large community of family and friends.

A memorial service is planned for February 16th, 2:00pm at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. A visitation and reception will follow at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Unity Presbyterian Church Music Ministry or Music Endowment fund.
