Mr. Joseph David McGuirt Jr., 80, peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on October 14, 2026. He was surrounded by his family as he succumbed to a long and debilitating illness.
David was born on April 7, 1946, and lived a complete and fulfilling life, putting God first and his family a close second. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting across South Carolina. He was also lifelong collector of vinyl records, and was never hesitant to play them… loudly.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Jane Dawkins McGuirt, in 1968, shortly before completing his business degree at the University of South Carolina. They were soon blessed with a daughter, Jodie. Fifteen years later, David and Barbara welcomed a son (on purpose), Jonathan. David made his wife and children the center of his world and demonstrated for them daily what it meant to live a life rooted in faith, devotion, and family. He worked hard to provide abundantly for his family but recognized that being present in his children’s lives mattered more than monetary success.
David was preceded in death by his parents Joseph David McGuirt Sr. and Annie Grace Brown McGuirt. An ever-devoted son, he always sought to make them proud and helped care for both of his parents until their deaths. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeannie McGuirt Linebarrier. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara; his children, Jodie (John) Hallman and Jonathan (Mary) McGuirt; and his granddaughters, Addison Rollings and Kathlyn (Cody) Kyzer, whom Jodie blessed him with. Jonathan and Mary shared pawrental rights with him to a collection of grandpets, including his favorite, Amy Whine-Haus.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 19, 2026 in Laurelwood Cemetery, 143 Laurel Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730. Please enter the cemetery from the White Street entrance.
David will be forever remembered in the hearts of his loved ones as a devoted follower of Christ, a beloved husband and father, and a faithful friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David’s honor to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Via Health Partners.
