Joseph F. Schlegel, 80, went peacefully to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, February 4, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna L. (Harvey) Schlegel; his sons Kent (Michelle) Schlegel and Brian (Amy) Schlegel, his brothers, Gary Schlegel, Lance (Karen) Schlegel and Robert Schlegel, his sisters, Rose Marie Bauman, Bonnie Johnson, Sandy (Don) Rinaldi and Lorraine (Gary) Koch, his grandchildren, Chelsea (Michael) Adams, Gabby (Nathan) Bartha and Anthony Maury; and his great grandchildren, Taylor, Alyssa & Caroline Adams, Caleb & Noah Bartha, Anthony Jr. & Aiden Maury.
Joe was born on August 21, 1942 to the late Joseph F. Schlegel and Claire Kampert Schlegel in Wilkinsburg, PA. Upon graduation from Norwin High School, he did a stint with the PA state police and army reserves. He then worked for Eastern Airlines, US Airways and retired from American Airlines as a aircraft mechanic for 45 years. In his pastime, Joe enjoyed horse back riding, fishing, classic cars, camping, especially the years he and Donna spent with Campers on Mission. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family is having a Memorial service on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 am at The Journey Church at Lake Wylie, 5415 Highway 557, Lake Wylie, SC 29710. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Palmetto Region.
