Rock Hill – Joyce Slatton Elder, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at The Cove at Harbor Chase, Rock Hill, SC.
Mrs. Elder taught school for many years. Upon her retirement, she became a hospital volunteer at Piedmont Medical Center and later began a new career as the Medical Librarian at PMC where she continued to work until her retirement at the age of 91. Mrs. Elder was an avid sports fan, particularly loving the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves. She was able to travel to many out-of-town games to see her beloved Panthers and was able to attend home games as recently as this past fall. Mrs. Elder was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 pm, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC. Committal services to Mrs. Elder will be 11:00 am at Forest Hills Cemetery on Friday, February 23, 2024 with a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Friday, at First ARP Church, 201 E. White Street, Rock Hill, SC with Rev. Barry Dagenhart officiating.
Preceded in death by her husband, William H. Elder, Sr; her parents, Ila and Grady Slatton and her brother, James Ernest Slatton, Mrs. Elder is survived by her son, William H. “Buzzy” Elder, Jr. (Mary-Libby); two daughters, Janie Cauthen (Chuck) and Betsy Hollis. In addition, she is survived by her 5 grandchildren and their spouses, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Jane Slatton Rutledge; many nieces, nephews and cousins and her caregiver, Brenda Duncan.
