Keith Harlan Auten, age 71, went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2025.
Keith, affectionately known as “Spanky,” was born on August 7, 1954, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He built his life on a foundation of faith in Christ, love for his family, and a deep commitment to serving others. Keith gave generously of his time and talents to the Rock Hill community in countless ways. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Rock Hill, where he also served as a deacon. He was a Freemason, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner. He was involved with the Dixieland Cruisers, Rolling Thunder, and girls fast-pitch softball as an umpire. Music was also part of his life, as he played drums for the Grits Band.
Keith was an avid bowler and a true motorhead, with a lifelong passion for classic cars and motorcycles. He retired after many years of dedicated service as a Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Rock Hill. At the time of his passing Keith was working with the Macomb group. One of Keith’s greatest joys over the last 20 years was bringing love, laughter, and hope to others through his Santa Claus outreach, ensuring that the Christmas season was brighter for those in need.
Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his daughter, Amy Auten; his step-daughter, Brandilynn Stairs (Kevin); his step-son, Richard Stairs (Europa); his cherished grandsons, Nathan Auten, John Copeland, and Kennedy Stairs; and his loving sister, Sheila Brown. He was preceded in death by his father, Ottis Auten, and his mother, Carrie Ard Auten.
A service to celebrate Keith’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church or that Keith’s memory be honored through an act of kindness.
Keith will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his faith, generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him.
