Charlotte, NC – Kornelija Jaunakais, 99, passed away on September 22, 2023 at The Pearl in Fort Mill, SC after a brief illness.  She was born on March 22, 1924 in Balvi, Latvia to Jazeps Bozevnieks and Darta Garais, who both preceded her in death. She, her husband and son escaped communist Russia in 1945. She immigrated to America in 1950 living most of her life in Kennet Square, PA.

She worked at St.Patrick’s Convent and St. Patrick’s Rectory before being employed by NVF in Yorklyn, DE until her retirement. She was a devout Roman Catholic, and was devoted to her family, and their education endeavors.  She was a tiny woman of amazing physical and spiritual strength and courage. She was the owner of the family business RDX Nuclear, Inc. with her Husband in Pa., which was later acquired by the family business Industrial Test Systems, Inc of Rock Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boris; her parents; four brothers and two sisters. She was survived by her children Ivars (Daryl) Jaunakais of Charlotte, NC; Maris (Cheri) Jaunakais of Sarasota, FL; Ilona Timanus of Kennett Square, PA; Yasmine Shoemaker of Rock Hill, SC; Dinah (Jack Ketterl) Jaunakais of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren, Lord Ivars (Lady Hannah) Jaunakais from the UK, James (Heather) Jaunakais, Lea Jaunakais, Andrea (Brendan) Schafer, Marissa (Anthony) George, C. Maria Jaunakais, Kristin (Jonathan Schultz) Timanus, Camila (Mike) Hill, Sarah (Ladson Lee) Shoemaker, and Anna (Erik) Bell; and her ten great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kornelija Jaunakais name to the American Diabetes Association.
