York, SC – Mrs. Linda Huffman Sumner passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023.

A service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 with an entombment following at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Reverend Jerry Devinney will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am.

Linda was born in Newnan, GA and was the daughter of the late Basil Huffman and Jewell Newman Huffman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Don Sumner, her daughter, Kathy Baker, and her sister, Gaynell Wright.

Linda spent many years as a stay-at-home mother, caring for her children. She later owned two Merle Norman franchises in the Charleston region. One of her stores was in North Charleston and the second one was in West Ashley.

Linda was a dedicated volunteer in many organizations that served those with special needs. She was instrumental in helping to grow the Area 11 Special Olympics event and led the group to a larger space to serve more individuals. In addition to the Special Olympics, she was very involved in Camp Arc in Rock Hill and at the Coastal Center in Summerville, SC. She always enjoyed cooking and entertaining and loved spending time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.

Linda is survived by her sons, Dan (Joyce) Baker of York, and Eric (Polly) Baker of Rock Hill; her granddaughter, Sara Reid Baker of Rock Hill; her twin sister, Brenda Davis of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Jean Hammond. Jean always treated her like family and loved her well. Her care allowed Linda’s last years to be filled with comfort and so much happiness.

Memorials can be made in Linda’s name to the Area 11 Special Olympics and to Miracle Park in Rock Hill.
