Rock Hill, SC – Loretta Jo Johnson, 84, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Loretta was born on September 17, 1940 in Enid, Oklahoma. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents Joseph E. and Edith V. Turner, brothers J E Turner, Jack Turner, and Max Turner, sisters Anita Baker, and Karen Kane. She is survived by her husband, Edward Johnson of Rock Hill, SC, son and daughter in law Gary and Cynthia Johnson of Rock Hill, SC, two grandchildren and their spouses Matt and Jordan Johnson of Gastonia, North Carolina, Anna (Johnson) and Spencer Mehr of Greenville, SC, and two sisters Dolores Storey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Yvonne Jones of Garland, Texas and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Loretta attended public schools in Enid, Oklahoma, graduating from Enid High School in 1958. She married Edward Johnson on August 21, 1959 in Enid and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their family this year. They moved to Texas in 1961 and lived in the same house in Plano, Texas from 1963 until moving to Rock Hill in 2022. She had two stints working in the front office of Texas Transformer.

Loretta was very supportive of her son’s activities in school, especially the Plano Senior High School Marching Band, where she served as a band booster officer. Loretta encouraged her son to attend Texas A&M University and became an active member of the Aggie Mom’s Club. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart. She instilled in them a love of games and puzzles. But the grandchildren were not allowed to win games just because they were ‘young’. She and Ed enjoyed Jeep/off-roading, especially in Colorado. They travelled extensively throughout the western United States visiting many National Parks. She loved attending and watching Texas Ranger baseball games and NASCAR races. She was absolutely delighted when the Rangers finally won the World Series in 2023 after 51 years of waiting. Loretta loved being creative and doing various crafts, especially crocheting and quilting.

The family would like to thank the staff members of Harbor Chase – Riverwalk, Providence Healthcare, and Hospice and Community Care for taking great care Loretta.

Any memorials can be made in Loretta’s name to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill SC 29731, or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
