Margaret Faris Barfield, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. She was born on October 29, 1939, in Newport, South Carolina, in York County.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, father Newton Choate Faris, and mother Della Mae Parrish Faris, and her brother Lindsey Faris. She is survived by her sister Maudine Gainey (brother-in-law RJ Gainey, deceased), her children Pam Barfield Hay and Christine Barfield Gray (son-in-law James F. Gray Jr.).

Her memory will be forever cherished by her grandchildren Brad Hay Jr. (wife Janet Hay), Michael Hay, and Matthew Gray, as well as her great-grandchild Preston Hay (wife Annie Hay). Margaret was a loving aunt to her favorite nephew, Robbie Gainey. A special friend of the family, Douglas Eugene Sutton, also mourns her passing.

Margaret dedicated many years of her life to her work. She retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company and continued to share her warmth and companionship as a caregiver at Westminster Towers Retirement Community. She found joy in giving back to her community and volunteered at Piedmont Medical Center.

Margaret had a deep and lasting passion for cooking and baking. She enjoyed feeding those she loved, including her church family. She also loved sewing and crafting.

Her church family was particularly dear to her heart. Her unwavering faith was evident as she taught Sunday school for many years, leaving a lasting mark on the lives of those she touched. She most recently attended Eastside Church of the Nazarene.

Margaret loved traveling and had a special fondness for the beach and the mountains.

There will be a visitation at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road Rock Hill, SC, 29732 on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Margaret Barfield will be remembered not only for her dedication to family and community but also for the joy she brought to the lives of all who knew her. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her legacy continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
