Martha “Tootsie” Pope Skar Braden, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 830 N. Jones Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 pm.
Born September 6, 1934 in Cherryville, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Colon Pope and the late Georgia Cline Pope. Martha retired from Threads USA in Gastonia where she worked in Research & Development. She was an avid bowler and participated in many leagues. She also enjoyed playing golf. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Martha is survived by her children, Monica Smith (Randy) of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico; Gil Skar (Ann) of Rock Hill; and Eric Skar of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Jason McGee, Tyler Skar, and Matthew Blair; four great-grandchildren; a special great-niece, Susan Starnes (Mack) and her caregiver, Bobbie Campbell. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Hoffman and 11 brothers and sisters.
