Mary O’Kelly Morgan Smith, beloved mother and cherished “Granny,” passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2026, at the age of 84 surrounded by her family.  Born on April 15, 1942, in Cobbtown, GA, Mary was the second of three daughters born to Mattie Lee & George Overn Morgan. She made Rock Hill her home for more than seven decades, becoming a deeply rooted member of the community.

For 65 years, Mary was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑Day Saints, where her faith shaped her life and guided her service to others. She served in numerous callings and especially enjoyed serving as a temple worker in the later years of her life. Her commitment to her church and her family was unwavering, and she will be remembered for the profound love she carried for both.

Mary dedicated most of her life to raising her six children and being a very active Granny. She also worked with Avon, Rosewood Elementary as a Crossing Guard, The Rock Hill Herald, and Walmart from where she ultimately retired after 25+ years of loyal service.

Mary found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life. She loved gardening and working in her yard, quilting and sewing, and exploring her family’s history through genealogy. She was a gifted storyteller who will be remembered for her humility, sense of humor, and quiet strength. As the matriarch of a large family, she was adored by her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren.

She is survived by her six children, fifteen grandchildren, and five great‑grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Lee & George Overn Morgan; her sisters, Dot Wright and Jane Hubbard; her husband, Carl Eugene Smith Sr.; two granddaughters, Brittany Smith and Caroline Smith; and one great‑granddaughter, Theodosia Smith.

Mary’s legacy is one of devotion—devotion to her faith, her family, and the countless lives she touched with her gentle spirit. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:30–11:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Both services will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints, located at 1883 Saluda Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

A graveside ceremony for family will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Flowers may be sent in remembrance of Mary to Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel 2133 Ebenezer Road Rock Hill, South Carolina 29732.
