Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Mary White Sims Long, native of Rock Hill, went home to be with the Lord whom she loved on Thursday, January 4, 2024.  She was married for 61 years to Pastor and Judge Ray Long. They are the parents of three sons, Jay (Janice) Long of Clinton, SC; David (Sherrie) Long of Rock Hill and Stephen Long of Spartanburg, SC; four grandsons and one granddaughter.  She is also survived by her brother, Colonel John C. Sims of Camden, SC.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John Chalmers Sims and Wilma Sims and her sister-in-law, Bobbie Sims.

She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, Winthrop College and Limestone College. She served as an Administrative Assistant at Upstate Carolina, Limestone College and Winthrop University. She also was Assistant Registrar at Limestone College. She worked faithfully alongside her husband for many years. She was the quiet companion who was always by his side.  She was known by everyone as the “sweetest lady you would ever know.” Her faith, compassion, and sharing were always evident. She never lost sight of how blessed she was by God. Her love for her husband, children and grandchildren was readily evident. As in Proverbs 31, “Her children rise up and call her blessed.”  She will be greatly missed by her husband and family, but they know they will see her again one day.
