Mrs. Mervin B. Allen, 85, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Mrs. Allen was born in Bellepoint, West Virginia. Raised in Whitby, West Virginia, (a true coal miner’s daughter) she graduated from Stoco High School and moved to Washington, D.C. where she met her husband. They settled in Columbia, SC where she pursued a degree in education. She retired from teaching middle school and enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Allen was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served as a Stephens Minister and helped plan Friendship Fellowship. Visitation will be held at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel at 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC on January 20 at 2:00 pm. The Funeral Ceremony is at 3:00 pm and burial after at Forest Hills Cemetery. The Reverend Janice Summey-Mullennix will officiate.
Mrs. Allen was predeceased by her husband, William Kaye Allen, her parents Margaret and Otis Bowling and her sister Corinne Lockhart. Mrs. Allen is survived by her daughter, Deborah Allen (Danny) Raines of Leesville, SC; her sons, William Kaye (Talitha) Allen ll of Greenville, SC, Neil Douglas (Lisa) Allen of Lake Wylie, SC, Michael Brian (Annie) Allen of Fredericksburg, VA; her grandchildren, Joshua A. Raines, (Bethany), Russell A. Raines (Sarah), Kirsten L. Allen, Christina Goff, (Stephen), Emily W. Allen, Claire A. Allen, William Kaye Allen lll, Amy C. Allen; her great grandchildren, Colton Raines, Harper Raines, Vaughn Raines, Peyton Raines, Grace Goff, Eden Goff and nephews Mark and Jon Combs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or the Humane Society of York County, 8177 Regent Parkway, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
