On August 19, 2026, Michael (Mike) Charles McKeon, age 70, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at the Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin on October 14, 1955, to Harold “Butch” McKeon and Ruby (Wagner) McKeon.

Mike grew up in St. Francis, Wisconsin and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1973. He participated in many sports throughout high school and was inducted into the Mariner Wall of Fame in 2022 for being a four-sport athlete with all-conference recognitions. Mike graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1977.

On April 21, 1979, he married the love of his life, Sandra (Kroeger) McKeon. Mike worked for 40 years in the Insurance & Risk Management industry with the last 21 years as Director-Business Development and Risk Management for a division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. In 1997 he expanded the company outside of Wisconsin to lowa and set up operations in four other states. In 2007 he started the new regional operations in Charlotte and opened up North Carolina and Virginia with further expansion into six other states.

Mike took pride in being committed to the development of his staff and in building strong agency relationships in geographical areas where he provided leadership. He was actively involved in the American Society of Safety Professionals at both the chapter and national levels for many years.

Mike had a lifelong passion for golf and was especially proud of his two-holes in one. He enjoyed volunteering for PGA tournaments and especially loved playing with his Fort Mill Golf Group. His favorite past time was looking for balls on the golf course, especially with the grandkids. Mike was a member of the Waterford Golf Club and the Rock Hill Elks Lodge #1318.

Mike was a loyal Wisconsin and Green Bay Packers football fan. When it came to music, Pink Floyd and Queen were his favorites. Mike was known for his dry sense of humor and his unwavering dedication to those he loved…he cared about everyone.

Mike was a dedicated husband, devoted father, and a proud grandfather. With his loving wife of 47 years, Sandy, he was the proud father of two sons: Sean, his wife, Becca, and their children, Kellen, Madison, and Lennox; and Colin, his wife, Jillian, daughter, Lilliana and a son due in January. He is also survived by his brother, Patrick, his wife, Bonne, and Patrick’s daughters, Shannon and Kelly; brother-in-law, Edward Radigan and his daughter, Andrea Hernandez (Manny); and nephew, Conor McKeon.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas; niece, Caitlin McKeon; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Radigan.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Mike during his illness-especially the exceptional doctors and staff at Levine Cancer Center and Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
