Ned was born on March 7, 1933 near Philadelphia, PA. He received a Masters of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decator, GA. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia McCool, in 1955 and they were happily married nearly 63 years. He was the father of 3, grandfather of 3, and great grandfather of 2, with one more on the way! His occupation began in agriculture, but soon turned into a lifetime occupation as Pastor when God called him to ministry in his mid 20s. Most referred to him as Brother Ned. He served as a Presbyterian (PCA) pastor from the 1960’s until about 2010. He also served as pastor of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill in the 1980’s and at Fairview Presbyterian in Fountain Inn in the 1990’s. His most recent church was Bullock Creek Church in Sharon, SC during the early 2000’s. After retirement, he continued to serve the Lord in various ministries at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte.
Psalm 92:13-15
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him”
Ned’s 90 years attest to living a heathy lifestyle. Most importantly, he made his spiritual life a priority. Matthew 4:4 says “man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Ned has demonstrated the fruits of the spirit from our first memories as very young children, all the way to present day. He did this through daily prayer, reading God’s Word and worshipping Him through song and praise. He has shown that the “joy of the Lord is his strength” over and over.
We would be remiss if we did not mention music. There has been lots of music that has flowed through each of our households. My memories include all the songs from the movie The Sound of Music. Of course, we had fun Christmas music, and Bing Crosby playing (Mama’s favorite), but the most memorable are the hymns, singing, listening to and playing them. Brooklyn Tabernacle cds play in the house and in the car. Worship lifts the down cast spirit in a way that nothing else will.
Each of us has been born for a purpose and each of us has influence wherever the Lord plants us. We who know our dad are thankful for the influence he has had on our lives. We can attest to his daily walk with our Lord. We conclude with this verse, John 3:30 said by John the Baptist of our Lord and Savior. He must increase, and I must decrease. That is what our dad says we must do, feeding on God’s Word, pray without ceasing and worship and reverently worship Him.
Matthew 25:23 “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
