Neddie (Ned) Lyle Polk Sr., of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on September 13, 1945, in York County, South Carolina, Ned lived a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and service to his community.
Ned was preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend, Virginia “Ginny” Diane Kirk Polk, who passed away on March 27, 2026. Married for more than 60 years, their lives were marked by unwavering devotion, companionship, and a friendship that made them truly inseparable. While his family mourns his loss, they find comfort in knowing that Ned is now reunited with Ginny and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Edison Polk Sr. and Virginia Lonell (Bell) Polk; his sister, Peggy “Joanne” Alion; and his beloved granddaughter, Alexa McKinley Miles.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Clyde “Bud” Polk Jr. (Nancy); daughter, Tammy Miles (Mark); son, Ned L. Polk Jr. (Tammy); grandchildren, Emma Tinker(Travis) , Amelia Miles(Julian Garcia-Kasirmirowski), Isabel Johnson(Wynn) , and Kimberley Polk; and his precious great-granddaughter, Piper Johnson. He also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship.
Ned began his career in real estate, where he quickly established himself as a successful and respected professional. He became the first real estate agent in York County to sell more than $1 million in real estate in a single year. His career in real estate eventually led him into the insurance industry and, ultimately, into the bail bond profession.
In 1984, Ned became a licensed bondsman and went on to become a respected leader in South Carolina’s bail bond industry. He was a dedicated member of the South Carolina Bail Agents Association throughout his career, serving in every office of the association, including two years as President, and continuously serving on its Board of Directors. He also served as the association’s lobbyist for eight years, advocating on behalf of a profession he cared deeply about. In recognition of his leadership and service, Ned was unanimously elected to the association’s Hall of Fame.
Outside of work, Ned found great joy in the simple things. He loved spending time on his boat, aptly named Virginia after both his mother and wife, and cherished trips to the mountains, where he enjoyed God’s creation and good company. A self-proclaimed historian of American history and an enthusiastic fan of classic Westerns, Ned was always ready with a story, an interesting fact, or a recommendation for a favorite movie, sometimes a “good” joke, and ALWAYS an animated blessing.
Ned also served his community as a longtime Head Usher at Mount Holly United Methodist Church. Welcoming others came naturally to him, and he served with the same warmth and generosity that defined so much of his life.
Above all, Ned was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was the person others could count on—whether to celebrate a victory, lend a helping hand, share a story, or simply make a gathering a little more enjoyable.
Ned was the light of a room and the life of a party. His laugh was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his presence impossible to miss. He never met a stranger. His wisdom, humor, generosity, and genuine love for people left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the faith he lived by, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 3:00pm at Lakewood Baptist Church, 3520 Mt Gallant Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive friends prior from 1:00pm – 2:45pm. A private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Ned’s memory to Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
