Oscar Landon (O.L.) Haynes, age 91went home to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 20th2025 in Rock Hill, SC.  

He was born on December 28th, 1933 in Maynardville, TN, a son of the late Ed and Aggie Mae Haynes. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1952 to 1956 at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, working with missile guidance. After that he worked at General Electric on NASA’s Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs as an electrical engineer in missile guidance systems.  He was happy to share that he had a part in sending the first man to the moon from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. When the Apollo program ended, he worked at Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin on several defense contracts until he retired. 

He married Doris Alice Nelson on November 13th, 1955 in Huntsville, Alabama, and moved to Florida in 1957.  He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. Everyone who knew him benefited from his generosity of time and money. He was always available to help, even in humble, unseen ways like mowing the church lawn into his 80s. He shared the gospel everywhere he went. He and Doris were very involved at First Baptist Cocoa (Cocoa, FL) and Spruce Creek Baptist Church (Port Orange, FL).  He began teaching Sunday School at the age of 16. He served as a deacon most of his life. Doris and O.L. traveled to many states and countries working with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, serving with Constructors for Christ building churches, and doing other missions work. Together, he and Doris sang at the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, Times Square, England, Lithuania, and many other places around the world as part of the Florida Worship Choir  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers George, Charlie, and Jacob. 

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Haynes. He is also survived by his four children, Landon Haynes, Susan (Eric) Lindgren, Carrie (Tom) Hare, David (Linda) Haynes, as well as six grandchildren: Shannon (Brent), Jason (Sarah), Candace, Stacey (Daniel), Greg (Alissa), and Jacob. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Aedan, Jesse, Gunnar, Abel, Noah, Lochlan, Sebastian, Gabriel, Henrietta, Todd, and Penelope.  

A viewing will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 24th at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, SC, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM.  Oscar will be interred at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
