Edgemoor, SC – Oscar “Vernon” Parrish, 89 passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024.

Born in Rock Hill, SC on May 9, 1935, Vernon was the son of the late Paul V. and Louise M. Parrish.

He was a printer at Rock Hill Printing and finishing company until the factory closed.  Vernon then worked at Worthington Steel Mill as a mechanic until he retired. He enjoyed farming, especially being on his tractor, gardening, being outdoors, spending time with his family and worshiping the Lord.  He was a long-time member of Harmony Baptist Church.

His passion was horses; in his younger years he spent much of his time breaking and training horses. As he got older, he became the Trail master of the Edgemoor Saddle Club. Later in life, he enjoyed trail rides with his granddaughter.

Vernon is survived by his daughter Lisa P. Shugart; granddaughters, Hannah P. (Benjamin) Oltmanns, and Emily B. Shugart; grandson Joshua C. Parrish; sister, Sara P. Jenkins; nephew, Ronald M. Jenkins, and niece Karen J. Carroll.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sylvia W. Parrish; his son Vernon “Kevin” Parrish; daughter-in-law Sheila E. Parrish, granddaughter Jennifer L. Parrish, and sister Elizabeth P. Black.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vernon’s name to Harmony Baptist Church in Edgemoor, SC.

The family will be at Vernon’s home Thursday, January 2nd from 11am-3pm for friends and family to give condolences.

Family will have a visitation and will be receiving friends at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd. Rock Hill, SC, on Friday, January 3, 2024, at 1pm.  Graveside service will follow immediately after visitation at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road in Rock Hill, SC.
