Paul Daniel Shoda, Sr., a man who filled every room with laughter and every heart with warmth, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Rock Hill, SC, at the age of 87. Born in Widemouth, WV, on October 25, 1937, Paul was one of fourteen children, raised in the close-knit coal mining town of Piedmont, WV. His upbringing shaped his love for family, his strong work ethic, and his larger-than-life personality.

Paul proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, pride, and resilience. After his service, he embarked on a career as a commercial electrician—a job he truly loved. As a foreman, he took great pride in his work, ensuring every wire was perfectly placed and every project was completed with excellence.

More than anything, Paul was a people person. He thrived in the company of family and friends, always ready with a joke, a story, or a helping hand. His presence lit up every gathering, whether he was out on the golf course with his brothers, playing games with his grandchildren, tending to his garden, or reminiscing about his childhood.

Paul’s love for life was evident in everything he did. He was a dedicated volunteer, giving his time to Mended Hearts, the City of Rock Hill’s Board for Handicap and Disabled Persons, and his beloved Rock Hill Dream Center Church. His deep faith and commitment to serving others were just as strong as his devotion to his family.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Linda D. Shoda; his children, Paul Daniel Shoda, Jr. (Deborah) and Vicky Stewart (Tony); his grandchildren, Kevin Stewart, Danielle Shoda, DJ Devore, Elisia Stewart, Christian Shoda, Cameron Shoda, and Michael Devore; and his great-grandchildren, Aubrey Stewart, Oliver Stewart, and Theodore Gorbunov. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws, all of whom he adored just as much as they adored him.

He was formerly married to Janet (née Milgate) Shoda, the mother of his children, with whom he shared many meaningful years. Though they later divorced, they remained connected through their family. She preceded him in death.

He was one of fourteen children born to Marko and Susie (née Palco) Shoda. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Matthew Shoda, Martha Kreczko, Albert Shoda, Betty Siegert, William Shoda, Johnnie Shoda, James Shoda, George Shoda, Charles Shoda, Agnes Wagner, Eva Shoda, and Timothy Shoda. His sister Barbara Shoda remains the last of this remarkable family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s honor to Rock Hill Dream Center Church (3330 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732) or Hospice & Community Care (2275 India Hook Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732).
