It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Richard Adams Blackwell, who entered into the presence of the Lord on April 29, 2026, peacefully at home in Rock Hill, SC, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Richard, born on December 12, 1938, in Rock Hill, SC, was a cherished son of the late Wallace Howard Blackwell and Annie Rhea Neely Blackwell.
Richard’s early years were marked by a strong sense of duty and commitment, a legacy he carried throughout his life. He served honorably in the US Army Reserves from 1957 to 1962, embodying the values of service and dedication that would define his character. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, reflected in his active membership at Eastside Baptist Church, where he not only found fellowship but also contributed to the spiritual life of his community.
A man of varied interests, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, often found casting a line by serene waters, and took immense pride in tending to his yard, transforming it into a beautiful sanctuary. His enjoyed trimming the house during the holiday season with beautiful decorations that delighted family and friends alike. A devoted Clemson fan, Richard could often be found cheering on his team or enjoying the thrill of NASCAR races and Atlanta Braves baseball games.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: daughter Lisa Carnes and her husband Cris, son Richard A. “Richie” Blackwell Jr. and his wife Lee, all of Rock Hill, SC. His sisters, Marion Kay Polk and Shirley B. Henry, also of Rock Hill, SC, were dear to him, as were his cherished grandchildren: Aleana Carnes (David), Cameron Carnes (Paige), Austin Blackwell (Hannah), and Kyle Blackwell. Richard’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Grayson Grantham, Isla Blackwell, Hendrix Carnes, and a soon-to-arrive great-grandson due in June, each a testament to the love and values he imparted.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and siblings, James Calvin Blackwell, Sidney B. Bassinger, Mary Ellen Long, and Nancy Ann, whom he has now joined in eternal rest.
