Rock Hill, SC – Richard Alwin “Dickie” Orr of Rock Hill, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Piedmont Medical Center. Richard grew up in Edgemoor, the son of Alwin Hartwell Orr and Meredith Epps Orr.

During his time in Rock Hill, he was employed by the Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce and The Herald newspaper. He moved to Atlanta and was employed in marketing with several companies. He retired from Central Atlanta Progress in 2011, moving back to Rock Hill.

Richard kept a “Life Box” filled with photos, cards and other memorabilia. A note he left inside, read in part: “This is my Life Box, compared to many, it may look very empty. Not so! My life has been filled with so many memories that would take many boxes to hold. It is the only place important things in our lives are truly safe. I’ll smile, reflect and enjoy for the rest of eternity. My Life Box is full; just as my life was. When you think of me, think of the memories.”

Richard is survived by his significant other, Barbara Barkley; daughter, Kathryn Alexa Orr Gandy; two sisters, Sylvia Patterson and Janis Threatt (Gary); two granddaughters, Adalyn and Lochlan Gandy; a niece Emily Guenther; two nephews, Dustin Threatt and Ty Patterson and Terry Burnham, the mother of his daughter, Alexa.

He leaves many friends significant in his life, brothers Butch, David and Donald Oneppo, Robert McCorey, Spike White and the late Flonnie Mae Davis. He was a great Butler to his two dogs, Sinatra and Sully.

A private family service will be held later this year.

Memorials can be made to the York County Humane Society, 8177 Regent Pkwy., Fort Mill, SC 29715 or the charity of your choice.
