On July 4, 2026, Robert “Bob” Porter Dixon, 95, passed away peacefully in Albemarle County, Virginia. His loving daughter, Judy Ann Dixon, and her husband, Juan Jose Ascoli, never left his side.
Robert will be laid to rest, as he requested, wearing his favorite pair of blue jeans in the hometown of Smyrna, South Carolina, where he grew up. A funeral service will be held at Canaan Methodist Church, 4810 Canaan Church Road, Smyrna, SC 29743, on July 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Robert lived most of his life in the Dixon family home at 1333 Calohan Road in Rustburg, Virginia. He was the widower of Emma Minnie Mae Martin Dixon and the son of the late Stanhope Alexander Dixon and Minnie Whisonant Dixon. He retired from GE in Lynchburg, Virginia, after 30 years as an electrical engineer. He was a graduate of Clemson University and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Robert’s faith was an important part of his life. He served his Lord through his active involvement in the United Methodist churches he attended over the years, most recently Heritage United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Robert loved gardening, woodworking, and figuring out how things worked so he could fix them. If something was broken, he could almost always repair it.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Harry A. Dixon, John A. Dixon, and William Frank Dixon; and his five sisters, Mary Jane Dixon, Sally Martin Fowler, Nancy Marie Smith, Lee Dixon Albright, and Edna Dixon Spencer.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Sandra Lee Dixon Alden and her husband, Russell Alden, of Bedford, Virginia, and Judy Ann Dixon and her husband, Juan Jose Ascoli, of Albemarle County, Virginia.
Robert believed strongly in giving back to others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
