Mr. Robert Edward Ligon, 68, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 22, 1957, Robert was the son of the late Arthur Ligon, Sr. and Pansy White Ligon.

Robert began his career as a professional truck driver with Coca-Cola, then went on to spend the majority of his career driving for Family Dollar and later Shoe Show. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and belief in doing things the right way.

Robert dedicated more than 50 years of his life to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. His passion for the fire service began as a teenager with Newport Volunteer Fire Department, and he went on to spend the majority of his years of service with Carolina Volunteer Fire Department. In recognition of his many years of dedication and commitment to his community, he was honored as a lifetime member of Carolina Volunteer Fire Department.

Robert loved the Lord and had a strong faith that he especially enjoyed sharing with others. He loved his family and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, where he took great pride in growing his prized tomatoes. Robert could often be found sitting on his swing in the garden or relaxing in his rocking chair on the front porch. He also loved cooking for family and friends, frequently preparing meals for church gatherings, family events, and holidays. His BBQ was always a family favorite, and his Christmas baking was a cherished tradition that will be especially missed.

Above all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family and the time they spent together.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue Ligon; two sons, Matthew Ligon (Emily) of Clover, SC, and Mark Ligon (Paige) of Lancaster, SC; and four grandchildren, Chase Ligon, Tyler Ligon, Charlotte Ligon, and Lucas Ligon.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Robert’s cousin Dianne, his extended family of cousins, and the Zegilla family for their unwavering love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared by the family once finalized.
