Rock Hill – Ruth Marie Johnson-Reeves was born in N. Charleston, SC on November 5, 1940 to the parents of Issac Johnson, Sr. and Irene Orial Murray. She, along with her mother, Irene, sister, Virginia and sister- cousins, Sheila and Margaret (Pat) relocated to Brooklyn, NY. Another sister-cousin named Anna came to reside with them later. Ruth also has a younger brother, Anthony Mills. In Brooklyn, NY is where she met her husband, Jimmie Lee Reeves, Sr. and they had six children named Jimmie (Jr), Nathaniel (Nate), Willie (Johnny), Tina, Rita and Jeffery.
Ruth was employed as a Nurse’s Aide at Brookdale Hospital. She continued her education in nursing, obtained her nursing degree and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Ruth utilized her nursing skills in Riker’s Island before moving to Edenton, NC and working at Pasquotank Correctional Institute. Ruth relocated to Fort Mill, SC all the while working as a nurse, then caregiver.
Ruth had many positions and titles, but Sister Ruth was the one she loved the most which led her to spearhead a Nursing Home Ministry for 15 years. Ruth was committed to righteousness, and she loved The Lord.
Ruth loved her children and was a mother to many others. She was our Mother, our Teacher, our Preacher, our Nurse, our Warrioress…our Champion. She leaves her legacy of children, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren along with a great assembly of nieces, nephews, family and friends to celebrate her life.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC with Pastors Fem and Toyin Ogundipe officiating.
