YORK – Ruth Burgess Vay Moore passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Carolina Gardens in York, SC.
Ruth’s service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC. Visitation to follow immediately after the service.
Ruth was born on December 21, 1940, to the late John Ross Burgess, Sr. and the late Millie Mae Settlemyre Burgess. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1959 and worked as a storage unit manager, in flea market sales, and most recently in EBay sales. Ruth recently moved back to York County to be closer to her family and lifelong friends, Rose and Edna Lee. In her free time Ruth loved to be with her family, her friends at Carolina Gardens, and to shop. She loved dogs and Elvis Presley.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 42 years, John Allen (Jack) Vay; her husband of 11 years, William Robert (Bill) Moore; her sisters, Mary Lila Burgess Moore, Mamie Juanita Burgess Thrower and Patsy Mae Burgess Walker; her brothers, William Oscar Burgess, Ellis Floyd Burgess, and Francis Richard Burgess; and her great-granddaughter, Margo.
Ruth is survived by her son, Allen Lee Vay (Sarah) of Michigan; her grandchildren, Hunter and Foster; three great-grandchildren; her brothers, John Ross Burgess, Jr. and Donald Hugh Burgess (Jan); and many loving nieces and nephews.
