Sara “Tody” Fortson Bolton Derrick, 97, of Tignall, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026. Born on May 2, 1929, in Tignall, Georgia, Tody was the daughter of the late Laura Latimer Bolton and the late George Fortson Bolton. She is survived by her sister Claudia Bolton Ellenberg. Preceding her in death was her husband of 59 years, Noah David Derrick.
She is survived by her children: her sons Mike Derrick (Sharon); Jeff Derrick (Veronica); and her daughter Laura Derrick Ashe. She was the grandmother to eight grandchildren: David (Cindy), Mary Lauren (BK), Sara (Mike), Sallie, Michael, Mary Beth, Kat (Joe) and Noah. She was the great grandmother to six great grandchildren: Elle, Finn, Olivia, Lucy Anne, Bentley and Carmela.
Tody will be remembered as a loving wife and mother with a quick wit and beautiful sense of style. She was an avid reader and accomplished bridge player who enjoyed daily walks with her dear friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the VIA Hospice care team for their mother’s tender care and support in her final days. The family has suggested in lieu of flowers to make donations to the charity or church of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held September 12th at 1:00pm at Tignall Independence Church, 247 Independence St, Tignall, GA 30668 with Reverend Kathy Morris officiating. Family will receive friends at the Derrick home following the service.
