Shirley married the love of her life on July 27, 1974 and left this earthly world in his arms on their 51st Anniversary. They had the kind of love story most people dream of, and built a life full of beautiful memories, inside jokes, and complete understanding of one another. They were and always will be best friends first, and soul mates closely after.
By those who loved her most, she is remembered as someone who was warm, generous, funny, and selfless. She was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, to open her home to anyone who needed a bed or a meal, and to make a milkshake or a tray of baked mac-n-cheese for her beloved grandchildren. She lived her life with a coffee in one hand and a Kindle in the other, and her arms open wide for the world’s best hug and kiss on the cheek.
Shirley was known for her love of all creatures (except lizards). Over the years, she had countless dogs, cats, turtles, cows, ducks, and birds, and adored every one of them. She had the kind of pure soul that attracted all living things to her.
Shirley was a proud member of the Catawba Nation in Rock Hill, SC. She loved visiting the Senior Center and being surrounded by her family. She learned the trade of basket making at the Catawba Nation Senior Center and made many baskets for her family to cherish.
