Rock Hill – Sophia Marie Friedheim Beers, 96, a lifelong resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina, born November 28, 1927, died peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday evening, April 15, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Marie Yoder Friedheim and a sister, Linda Marie Friedheim, who died during infancy.
The Friedheim family owned and operated A. Friedheim and Bro. Department Store, which was located at 113 E. Main Street from 1866 until the store closed in 1965.
Sophia is survived by her daughter, Michele Dupre of Rock Hill, SC and a wide and extended family of cousins and many lifelong friends.
Sophia was a graduate of Winthrop College and often bragged about being enrolled by her father at that time as, Winthrop Training School on the day of her birth, which she attended from first grade through twelfth, then four years of college. Sophia was a member of various civic organizations throughout her life which included the Rock Hill Junior Welfare League. Sophia was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Rock Hill.
In accordance with Sophia’s wishes, a graveside service will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM, April 20, 2024 at Laurelwood Cemetery.
