Sylvia Jean Hooven McKenrick, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Blythewood, SC on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Born on February 27, 1947, Sylvia was the first-born child to the late Laura Grace Jones Hooven and the late Clarence LeRoy Hooven of Clearfield, PA. She married her first love, Jim on December 31, 1963. In addition to her parents, Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Howard McKenrick and her brother, Ed Hooven.

She is survived by her two sons, James “Jim” Howard McKenrick, Jr. (Rick Sanchez) and Richard “Rich” Allen McKenrick (Theresa); her three grandchildren, Sam McKenrick (Ashley), Sarah Grace Magyar (Stephen), and Miranda Sanchez; and three great-grandchildren, Richard Webb McKenrick, Stephen Macmillan Magyar, and Ali White.

Sylvia found being a working mom fulfilling, but her greatest joy came from being a grandmother. She was a devoted and loyal friend, big sister, colleague, mother, grand and great grandmother who valued faith, family and being patriotic. She served her family and community selflessly. She was a member of the Dorcas Sewing/Quilting Circle at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she and fellow friends made quilts and gifts for the infirmed or homebound. She accompanied her husband and other mission minded friends on trips to Newquay, England where she openly shared the Gospel news along with a cup of tea.

Syliva was both an avid student of the Word of God and US history, often sharing what she recently learned with her family and friends. She left an indelible mark on all who know her by her kindness, generosity, encouragement, unconditional love and unwavering loyalty.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
