Mr. Thomas Wayne McCoy, 83, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026 surrounded by his loving wife and family in his home.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Evard McCoy and Annie Mae Workman McCoy, his brothers, Jack McCoy and Frank McCoy; his sister, Peggy McCoy Robbins; and his great -grandchild, Rush McCoy Lavender.
Thomas was employed with Winn-Dixie Food Stores for over thirty years as a market manager. He enjoyed fishing and gardening which he must’ve had a green thumb because he could grow just about anything. Gardening requires patience, care, and time. It means planting something small, tending to it faithfully, and trusting that what is planted will grow. In many ways, Thomas leaves behind a legacy much like a well-tended garden. He planted roots through his family, nurtured relationships through the years, and leaves behind generations that will continue to grow long after his earthly work is done. His life reminds us that some of the most beautiful things are built slowly, through years of love, faithfulness, hard work, and care.
Thomas shared an extraordinary 65 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Brenda Mahaffey McCoy. Together, they built a life, raised a family, and created a legacy that will continue for generations to come. Sixty-five years of marriage represents a lifetime of shared memories, seasons of change, enduring commitment, and a love woven into the very fabric of their family. Their life together gave the world something truly precious: a family whose roots run deep and whose branches continue to grow. The love they shared will live on through every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild who carries their legacy forward.
His family continued to grow, blessing him with 27 great-grandchildren. Among them is the newest addition, Charlee Wayne-Martin Wallace who was born on Thomas and Brenda’s 65th anniversary and whose name was chosen with his Poppy in mind. What a beautiful tribute to a man whose name and memory will continue through the generations. Though Charlee’s time with his Poppy on this earth may be brief, he will grow up knowing that his name carries a special connection to a man who deeply loved his family. His story will be told, his memory will be treasured, and his legacy will live on in the generations who follow him.
In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his children: Kimberly Lynn McCoy, Thomas Duane McCoy (Cristi), David Wayne McCoy (Vicki), and Marshall Todd McCoy (Lori). Duane and David are twins born on their dad’s 21st birthday. He is also survived his ten grandchildren: Kristen Vinesett (John), Jordy McCoy (Becky), Brendan McCoy (Cara), Jared McCoy, Jeremy McCoy (Kaleigh), McCenzi McCoy, Emilee Wallace (Brooke), Jade Lavender (Andy), Madison Helms (Jackson), and Christian McCoy (Cassie). Also surviving are his twenty- seven great-grandchildren: Brock, Emma Grace, Alexia, Hayden, Kyle, Mia, Drew, Lila, Linley, Ward-David, Rowan, Riggins, Riley, Luke, Anne, Grace, Levi, Keleigh Rae, Ella Jo, Bennett, Hattie, Maverick, Paisley, Luca, Callen, Chloe, and Charlee.
The McCoy family would like to thank Thomas’s caregivers during his time of illness who gave exceptional attention to Thomas’s needs. They are Kimberly Lynn (his daughter), special friends, Jeff & Julie Murphy Mullis and Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care.
Above all else, Thomas loved Jesus. His faith is the foundation of the hope his family holds today.
Though saying goodbye brings a sorrow that words cannot fully express, the promises of God remind us that those who place their faith in Christ have the hope of everlasting life.
“I have fought a good fight I have finish my course, I have kept the faith.: 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
