Rock Hill, SC – Tu Ngoc Phan, 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A Mass will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road E, Fort Mill, SC 29715, with a burial following at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
Born in Vietnam, Mr. Phan was the son of the late Nghiem Ngoc Phan and the late La Thi Nguyen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sang Maria Phan and his son, Tinh Lee Phan. He was retired from Celanese after many years of service.
In his free time, Mr. Phan enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors. He loved to travel and visited many beautiful regions, including Rome, Vietnam, Thailand, and Jerusalem. He was a devoted Catholic member of the Oratory and was a member of Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill. Mr. Phan found great joy in helping others in his community. He was president of the Vietnamese Catholic Association of SC for many years. More than anything else, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He made it a priority to visit each of his children and their families throughout the United States every year, knowing the value of those visits.
Surviving are five sons and two daughters, Tai Phan (wife: Elizabeth), Pamela Hue Phan, Thoi Phan, Tinh Phan (Wife: Tina Tham), Lauren Tuyet Huynh (Husband: John), Trung Phan (wife: Quynh), Joseph Phan (wife: Helen Lee), along with 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
