Victoria (Vicky) Jean Browning was born April 15, 1946 in Montreal Quebec, Canada to her mother,
Vivian Marie Dozois (dec) and father William James Herring (dec). As a gifted child, Vicky began the
first grade at age four and graduated from high school at 16. She immigrated to Plattsburgh, NY, with
her mother and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh at twenty with a teaching license. She began her
34-year teaching career at an elementary school on the Air Force base nearby where she met her
husband, Harold Thomas Browning (dec). They married in 1969 and moved to Lexington, Kentucky,
in 1972. Vicky continued to teach 1 st -3 rd grades in Fayette County, touching the lives of countless
children.
Vicky and Harold welcomed their only child Tori in 1980. Vicky was a loving mother, grandmother, and
friend. After teaching American history and government for nearly 30 years, she pursued her US
citizenship, being naturalized on February 22, 1995. After the death of her husband, Vicky thrived in
retirement: enjoying bible studies, volunteering at church, attending book clubs, playing mah jongg,
and most of all, travel with her friend Sue Coyle. After the birth of her three grandchildren, she moved
to Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 2012 to be closer to family.
Vicky was a wonderful grandmother, and her grandchildren looked forward to her visits and finding
out what would be in “Mimi’s bag of tricks.” Most of all, she loved reading to them and teaching
Sophie to knit. While living in Rock Hill, Vicky volunteered at church, the York Couty Museum, and
continued to travel. She could be found frequenting Ebenezer Grill with her friends, attending Politeia,
playing Mexican Train Dominoes, or using her eye for design and gardening to help friends and
neighbors. For the last eight months of her life, she was cared for by the most loving staff at Wellmore
of Tega Cay and Agape Care Group of Rock Hill. Vicky relinquished her fight with MSA on September
15, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Vicky is survived by her daughter Tori (Spouse-Ryan) Brewer of Rock Hill, and three grandchildren:
Hayes 21, Toby 20, and Sophie 18, students at Clemson, University of South Carolina, and Clemson.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lee Browning.
Family will receive and welcome friends on Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 2:00P.M. to 2:45P.M. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road Rock Hill, SC 29732. A Memorial service will be held after the visitation at 3:00P.M. in the chapel.
