Rock Hill, SC – Mr. William David Smith, Jr., 78, of Rock Hill SC passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. David was a man of faith and a follower of Jesus Christ.
David was born September 21, 1946 in Rock Hill SC to the late William David and Fannie Lee Hilton Smith. He attended Rock Hill High School and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He received his Master’s degree at Winthrop University and was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan. He was a good and faithful servant, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved fishing and gardening. David had a long and fulfilling 30-year career with the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation where he began as an evaluator and served as a counselor and as Area Supervisor for York, Chester and Lancaster counties for 17 years.
Survivors are his loved and devoted wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ivey (Beth) Smith; son, William David Smith, III and his wife, Ginger of Rock Hill; daughter, Laura Smith Gaetano and her husband, Phil of Clarksville, TN; sister, Frances Smith Hall of Lake Wylie, SC; and brother, Samuel Jerry Smith and his wife, Mary Ellen of Rock Hill; grandchildren, William David Smith, IV and his wife, Lindsey of North Charleston, SC; Edwin Ivey Smith of Reno, NV; Philip Pasquale Gaetano, Jr. and his wife, Alexis of Cumberland, RI; David Saverio Gaetano of Charlotte, NC; and James Alessandro Gaetano of Clarksville, TN; great-granddaughters, Eleanor Green Smith and Margaret Miles Smith of North Charleston, SC. David was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Smith Williams.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Matt Allison officiating. Visitation will follow in the church parlor.
