Rock Hill – Mr. William (Bill) Dunsmore Patterson, 76, of Rock Hill, SC, suddenly passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Piedmont Medical Center.

Bill was born on February 7, 1947 to the late Arthur Charles Patterson Jr. & Arlene Loader Patterson in Florence, South Carolina and was of the Methodist faith.  After Bill graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1965, he went on to serve in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska.

Mr. Patterson later began to serve Rock Hill in the sales industry for over 50 years.  Many may remember him from his longevity in the automotive industry, in which he retired. He was an active member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34 where he served on the South Carolina Liaison Sons of The American Legion, Honor Guard of the American Legion, and American Legion Military Funeral Honor Program, as well as past Commander.  Bill was a member of the Rock Hill Moose Lodge 1720 where he served as Past Supreme Governor and held a Pilgrim degree within the fraternity.

Some of Bill’s joys were watching sports, shagging, history, and caring for animals. He was very passionate about his love for animals, especially cats and birds. Bill enjoyed spending time bird watching and feeding stray cats and kittens. He would often find himself caught up in reading history books and found much interest in visiting historical sites. Bill loved and enjoyed listening to Carolina beach music and was a past member of the Rock Hill Shag Club.

A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the Frank Roach Post 34 American Legion, 524 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill SC.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the American Legion.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his spouse, Sarah Deaton Patterson; two children, Amy Leigh Patterson of Summerville, SC and Frederick Mullis of Baltimore, MD; his three grandchildren, Imagine Patterson of Columbia, SC, MacKenzie Mullis of Wilmington, NC, and Connor Mullis of Baltimore MD; his brother, Robert L. Patterson of Columbia, South Carolina.
